New collaboration: We strengthen Swedish fishing history through the Fishing Historical Network!
Fishing has always been a lifeline in Swedish society – from the coastal fishing villages to the sparkling lakes of the inland. Now we take the next step to secure this heritage by joining the network initiative coordinated by The Museum of Work.
The purpose of it The Fishing Historical Network is to gather museums, associations, and history enthusiasts to exchange knowledge and preserve the stories of the Swedish fishing industry. Through joint efforts, we can ensure that old fishing methods, boat building skills, and the human destinies behind the industry do not fall into oblivion.
Why is this important?
Sweden's fishing history is about more than just catch; it is a story of industrial development, environmental care, and culture. Through the network, we gain access to:
- Expertise: A direct exchange with other labor life museums and researchers.
- Documentation: The opportunity to access archival material at the National Archives and the Agency for Marine and Water Management.
- Visibility: To collectively highlight the significance of fishing for Swedish tourism and cultural heritage.
What happens now?
